Going to church makes you a good person.

I went to Starbucks yesterday afternoon. Not because I was really dying for coffee but because I have a giftcard and they have wifi. We don't have internet at home. I had a couple hours to kill before work so I figured why not?

I was browsing and posting on Tumblr and these women probably around my age came and sat down near me. I posted some random stuff to Tumblr and mentioned I was amused over them talking about anal sex and dry humping so loudly. I can't do a link to that since I'm posting through email on my BlackBerry but it's on my Tumblr if you wanna see the random crap I post on there. Okay, so the girls I mentioned earlier were talking about a lot of stuff and they were literally only two feet away from me so of course I heard what they were saying. At first I was kicking myself for not remembering headphones so I could listen to music. They were obnoxious and seemed to be rather judgmental and narrow minded. Here's something one of them said while talking about some friends of theirs....

"I mean, so Erin slept with a married guy and then slept with his brother that is also married but so what? I mean the married guy and his brother are her friend Christina's cousins and now Christina is acting like Erin is some kind of Godless whore just because she fucked Christina's cousins who both happened to be married. But I mean, Erin's father is a Minister for crying out loud so she's not some Godless, moral lacking bitch, you know?"

I don't see dragging the religious aspect into it because I don't think you need religion to be a good person and have sound morals honestly.  Being a minister doesn't mean he's necessarily a good person for one and even if he is, just because this girl is his daughter doesn't mean she's automatically a good person just for sharing his DNA. I know when it comes to cheating it takes two to tango and if the person is going to cheat, they're going to do it. You don't have to be the one to help them do it, though. It's not right. You're just as wrong and guilty as the person doing the cheating is in my opinion so saying it's only one person's wrong doing in that scenario is inaccurate. And that girl might not be a bad person but she did something fucked up. I just don't understand the logic in saying her father is a minister so she's obviously a good person.

I've known plenty of people who were preacher's kids or vice versa and they weren't good people. One kid used to steal from his father's church, stole money from his mother, robbed a few places and was just generally a thug and not a nice person at all. Having a person in your family who's very into religion or even connected directly to the church doesn't automatically make everyone in their life a good person by association. Just being there themselves doesn't even mean they're a good person. I dislike that people associate being religious with being a good person. That doesn't mean they're all evil because that's not true either. Like with anything else, there's good and there's bad. You can have morals and be an outstanding person and never have stepped foot into a church in my opinion.
