Spring, birthday, apple juice, Safe House, books, etc...

  • I'm excited for warmer weather. Ready to put the hoodies away and bust out my flip-flops. Also, I'm ready for some swimming and wakeboarding this summer. Not to mention baseball and hopefully at least one trip to a beach somewhere. Maybe for my birthday since it's on a weekend this year! :D
  • I, for some reason, randomly crave root beer from time to time. It has to be from a bottle and I only really like Maine Foot or IBC. Most grocery stores don't sell Maine Root so I only pick it up when I'm at Whole Foods or Central Market and in the mood for it. I was at Whole Foods last night and saw the root beer. I was more interested in getting some apple juice. I got some organic apple juice and some organic honeycrisp apple juice. If you've never had a honeycrisp apple, you're totally missing out, they're delicious. I have to buy organic apple juice because any kind (and trust me, I've tried tons of brands) made from a concentrate makes me have a weird reaction if I drink more than two ounces at a time.
  • I hate cotton candy. I don't like the taste, it's too sweet and even the smell makes me gag a little.
  • A nice, long shower is one of the best ways to kill a little bit of stress. It doesn't melt it all away but it does nicely at removing a layer or two. Or maybe it's all the singing I tend to do in the shower that de-stresses me. Or a combination of the shower and the rocking out. Whatever, it's awesome and I smell great afterward.
  • The boyfriend and I went and saw Safe House on Sunday evening after my brother's hockey game, lunch with the family and several hours in IKEA. Safe House wasn't bad. The plot's pretty weak but there's a ton of action in it to make up for that. All the explosions and fighting scenes were pretty awesome and kept me entertained through the whole movie.
  • I tried warm milk the other night for the first time. Guess what? It was not my favorite thing or anywhere close to it. I also didn't feel any more relaxed or ready to go to sleep. I'll be sticking to some warm tea when I get the urge for a warm beverage at night.
  • I honestly don't care what most people think of me. I care more about how I feel about myself at the end of the day than what other people think of me. I wish more people felt that way. It drives me crazy watching people drive themselves crazy trying to please other people, fit in, worrying about how other people will see them, changing their views, being afraid to speak their mind, etc etc etc. If more people worried about being happy and confident in themselves instead, they would be a lot better off. In my opinion anyway.
  • I love books more than I love most other things. I could (and do) spend hours happily reading some days. One problem I have? If I get really into a book, I speed through it and then get sad because I'm done with the book in a day or two. Some books are just so great you can't put them down!
  • I made these a few days ago. It's the first time in a long time that I've made cupcake for myself and the boyfriend and not for someone else because I was being paid to do so. I ate one and now I'm pretty much done with them, lol. So now I'm making Shane take half of them to work with him tomorrow. Which is also kind of useful for me since a good handful of my customers are his co-workers, haha. :D
And I will end this post on this note.....

I like quotes, okay...

I like quotes. Sometimes it helps to read a few sentences to put you in a better mood, give you a little kick of perspective, a small boost of inspiration, some encouragement or many other things. Sometimes I'm not reading them for any reason other than just because I enjoy them. So, I'm going to share some of my favorite quotes today. Hope y'all enjoy. And feel free to comment and leave a favorite quote or three of your own in the comment section if you want to share any. I never mind having more or seeing what words speak to others. :)

Despicable Me, Blackhawks, Gummy Bears & other stuff...

    Brain Dump Time...

  • Despicable Me is an awesome movie. It never fails to make me laugh. Also, I don't care how old I get; I will always dig cute animated films. Especially films by Pixar. Love. Love. LOVE.
  • The home opener for the Dallas Stars is October 7th. Against the Chicago Blackhawks. We have tickets in pretty good seats in the lower bowl. So excited. I'm definitely ready for some time at the AAC cheering and yelling my head off for my boys to kick some Blackhawk ass. :D Then we play again on the 8th, against the Blackhawks again. Only that game will be played in Chicago. What a way to kick off the 2011-2012 season.
  • I think I'm addicted to Yummy Earth Organic Gummy Bears. I love gummy bears as it is but those are really damn delicious. I haven't had any in 3 weeks and I've been craving them like mad lately, haha. I need help.
  • By the way; NOT EVERY NEW MOVIE THAT COMES OUT NEEDS TO BE IN 3D.
  • I love Trident Layers gum. Sweet Cherry + Island Lime might be my favorite gum ever. I hate cherry limeades (you hand squeeze thousands of limes and makes thousands of cherry limeades and see if you want to keep drinking them though honestly I never cared much for them in the first place) though so I'm happy the cherry lime combination wasn't totally ruined for me. ;)
  • I will never understand people's obsession with celebrities. I don't get why people care where they shop, who they date, what they eat, what kind of car they drive, what music they like, what they do for fun or any of that stuff. I care about those things in family, friends and my boyfriend. Or when I was single, potential guys or girls I might be dating. I get that people want to be able to relate to them in some way and think it's cool to have things in common with their favorite celeb or athlete. For me, I don't know them, won't ever know them and don't give a fuck about what goes on in their personal lives because it doesn't affect me, have anything to do with me or really even interest me. I have enough going on with myself and the people in my life, I see no reason to keep up with someone I don't even know. I just don't get it but to each their own. :)
  • I hate cotton candy. I also hate hot dogs, bacon, corn dogs, peas, pea soup and grapefruit. Okay, that's a lie. I love grapefruit but I'm allergic to it so I can't have it or anything with grapefruit juice or flavoring. That makes me sad because it's delicious. The rest of that stuff I listed, I really do hate all of that gross junk.
  • I love plaid.
  • Very little makes me happier than ice skating or rollerblading. It clears my mind and it's a lot of fun. Not to mention good exercise. I feel so centered when I have a pair of skates on my feet and I'm gliding over the ice or across pavement.

29. What was the last movie you watched at home?: Black Swan.

30. What is in your pocket?: I'm wearing boxers so no pockets.

31. Who introduced you to your bf/gf/husband/wife?: Myself. I'm awesome like that.

32. Where do you hurt?: At the moment, no where.

33. Has someone ever made you a build a bear?: Oh yeah. My boyfriend had made me a few. They're adorable.

34. What’s something fun you did today?: I'm doing this late Friday night so we'll say helping my younger brother find hockey gear was something fun. Also, playing Apples to Apples while having a few drinks was fun, too.

35. What is your favorite aisle at Target?: I don't have one. Unless you want to count the DVD section, then that.

36. When is your birthday?: June 15th.

37. Is there anything hanging from your rear view mirror?: Nope.

38. How many states in the US have you been to?: Uh, damn.... 10 for sure. Maybe more if you count a couple that were driven through.

39. What kind of milk do you drink?: Soy milk is what I prefer.

40. What are you going to do after this?: It's almost 3 AM so.... Schedule this to post, wash my face, play some Incubus and pass the hell out.

Happy Saturday!!!!!! :)
Have a good weekend, y'all!

Kurt Cobain themed....

I want to play last week's Wednesday Wickedness today. I didn't have internet all week last week so when I saw these questions on a couple blogs, I had to them even though it's almost a week later. I just reblogged a picture of Kurt Cobain on my Tumblr yesterday so found it slightly amusing when I saw last week's questions while looking around some blogs last night after work. I'm a big Nirvana/Cobain fan so I can't pass up doing these questions. :D

The way WW works is they quote someone and make up questions relating in some way to the quote they picked. Kurt Cobain was their pick for quotes last week. :D

Wednesday Wickedness 1/12/2011.

1. "A friend is nothing but a known enemy."
Have you ever had a “friend” that you discovered was really an enemy?
I have and I think most people have had that happen at least once in their lifetime sadly.

2. "Drugs are a waste of time. They destroy your memory and your self-respect and everything that goes along with with your self esteem."
What is the strongest drug (legal or otherwise) that you have taken?
Cocaine.

3. "I had a really good childhood up until I was nine, then a classic case of divorce really affected me."
Has a divorce (yours or your parents) really impacted your life?
Nope. I've never been married and my parents aren't divorced. I have had a few close friends be impacted by it. One in particular I was indirectly impacted in a way through them just because I helped them get through it because my friend took it so badly and his parents were trying to make him pick sides and turn him against the other. It was a lot of ugliness.

4. "I really haven't had that exciting of a life. There are a lot of things I wish I would have done, instead of just sitting around and complaining about having a boring life. So I pretty much like to make it up. I'd rather tell a story about somebody else."
What's the most exciting thing that you've ever done?
A lot of things! I'm an adventurous and impulsive person so it has left me having a lot of adventures, lol. I think one of my top exciting moments was going cliff diving. It was one of the biggest thrills ever and was also so incredibly liberating.

5. "I was looking for something a lot heavier, yet melodic at the same time. Something different from heavy metal, a different attitude."
Is there a heavy metal band that you are a fan of, or were a fan of at that time?
TONS. I LOVE METAL. :D

6. "I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not."
Do people generally like you?
Some people do, some people don't. I don't let it bother me either way, honestly. A lot of people find my blunt honesty as rude so I know plenty of people dislike me for that and other reasons I'm sure. I like to focus on the people that do like me instead of giving any attention or thought to those who don't. ;)

7. "I'm too busy acting like I'm not Naive. I've seen it all, I was here first."
Are you naïve at all?
No.

8. "I've always had a problem with the average macho man - they've always been a threat to me."
Does a certain type of person scare you?
No, not really. Not a lot scares me. Also, I don't think you can tell who's scary and will do you harm just by looking at someone.

9. "If you ever need anything please don't hesitate to ask someone else first."
Do you mind a friend who asks for favors?
Not at all, as long as they would be willing to help if I needed it and don't try to abuse my giving nature. Selfish, needy people bug me.

10. "The worst crime is faking it."
Do you ever “fake it” for approval?
No. Again, I don't care if people like me. And thankfully I've yet to work a job where I have to deal with a lot of bullshit or a really horrible boss.

Those were fun. Now, I will end this with a picture and one of my favorite Cobain quotes.

"Wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are."

Happy Tuesday!

True or False...

"Impossible is just a word used by people who prematurely set up barriers for themselves."

This, that, the other thing...

Musical Monday brings you "Maybe" by Sick Puppies. I love this band. They rock live. He seriously sounds better live and they put on a hell of a show. I don't relate to this song but I love it anyway.

I took The Boyfriend out for dinner last night. Nothing fancy or anything but it was nice to have the day off work and to go out to dinner with him. I hardly ever see him anymore because our work schedules clash. We live together and I see him one day out of the week since we both have Sundays off. I now really like Sunday. :p

The Boyfriend starts his new job in one week. I'm quite happy for him. I'm also happy that we'll be able to move out and live on our own again, just the two of us. I miss having my own place. I won't miss having to share a living space with other people. Or a cat. I'm not a cat person. Mostly because I'm seriously allergic to them and I'm not fond of anything that makes me feel disgusting and miserable.

I was out yesterday and heard a group of women in their mid-thirties complaining about how Paris Hilton is not news-worthy. And by heard, I mean they were standing behind me in line and discussing loudly that nothing she does should be news-worthy. This, amuses me. Why? Because all the other celebrities *are* much more news-worthy, eh? *rolls eyes*

There's a customer that comes into my job that looks like Henrik Zetterberg of the Detroit Red Wings. He's come in a few times now, his check is usually $15 or a little less but so far he always tips $10. He's nice, polite and kind of funny. And tips well. And doesn't make a huge mess. I like him, haha.

I have a Tumblr app on my cell now. I'm not on my laptop much since I'm so busy lately, lol.
If the app works well, I'll be able to use Tumblr more since I always have my phone on me. Well, I'll have the ability to use it more but no promise that I actually will. Though, I did post a LOT on there yesterday while I was enjoying doing very little on my day off. :p

HOCKEY SEASON STARTS SOON. :D

And lastly, this quote? I LOVE IT.

“I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I’m not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.” - Robert McCloskey

Happy Monday!

An outburst of the soul....

I've seen this little meme on a few blogs and a few shorter versions floating around Tumblr, too. You take your iTunes or MP3's and put it on shuffle and post the first 20 songs that come up. Supposedly, you shouldn't be skipping any songs you may be "embarrassed" to listen to. Blah blah blah. So, I thought it might be amusing and decided to go for it. Why not, right?

1) Heroes by The Wallflowers

2) Lost In Space by Avantasia

3) Everything You Want by Vertical Horizon

4) Fuel by Metallica

5) Sober by Pink

6) Black Balloon by Goo Goo Dolls

7) Raining On Sunday by Keith Urban

8) Broken by Sonata Arctica

9) My Last Serenade by Killswitch Engage

10) Savior by Rise Against

11) Blackwater Park by Opeth

12) Without Me by Eminem

13) Two Weeks by All That Remains

14) Rock You Like A Hurricane by The Scorpions

15) The Illusionist by Scar Symmetry

16) Fat Bottomed Girls by Queen

17) She Is by The Fray

18) Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith

19) Wrath by Lamb Of God

20) Dig by Incubus

And because I can, here are 5 more...

21) What Was I Thinkin' by Dierks Bentley

22) Chasing The Dragon by Epica

23) Dream Lover by Bobby Darin

24) It Is What It Is by Lifehouse

25) Pursuit Of Vikings by Amon Amarth

That was fairly amusing. I honestly don't understand why people would ever be embarrassed or ashamed to admit they like a particular song, band, singer, etc. Who gives a fuck if people you like don't like it? I guess in part because I don't give a shit what people think about me, I don't care if people poke fun of my music. I figure I have to be happy with what I listen to, no one else does. So, I like what I like. :)

Now, here are a few quotes about music that I love. Enjoy. ;)

"Music is what feelings sound like."

"Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who could not hear the music." -Angela Monet

"Music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest, heals the heart and makes it whole, flows from heaven to the soul."

"When words leave off, music begins." -Heinrich Heine

"Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything." -Plato

Happy Wednesday!

Failure..

"Without disappointment, you can't appreciate victory."

That is a quote from one of my favorite movies, Gone In 60 Seconds.

It's one of my favorite quotes in general. I love it.

Something I used to have a hard time with was not succeeding at things. I'm a very determined, ambitious individual. I succeed at most things I set my mind to. I don't say that trying to be arrogant because I'm not arrogant, it's just true. So, when I occasionally failed at something, I got annoyed with myself. I'd talk down on myself and then push myself to do better. Even over trivial things. I used to have such a difficult time with failure. I held myself to ridiculous standards and was way too hard on myself. I wanted to be better. In every way. I never felt good enough, for anything or anyone.

I've since learned that I won't always succeed at everything I attempt and that's okay. It doesn't make me weak, it doesn't make me stupid, it doesn't make me anything more or less than what I already am.

I've also learned that the quote I started this post with is so true. I always liked it but I didn't always fully understand what it meant. I do now because it's so true. Facing disappointment in life makes those victories that much sweeter when they happen.

The only way I could truly fail at something is to never try at all. At least if I don't succeed, I usually learn something about myself in the process or I learn something new about something else. At least I tried rather than being too afraid or too lazy to attempt something. I never look at things as failures anymore. Life is just experience after experience. Some are better, some are worse but they all offer the chance to gain something new. Even if it's only a perspective, a lesson learned, a funny story or something else but any of that is better than nothing and I never view it as a failure.

Happy Friday!

Comments, please?

Quotes; change & growth.

Alan Cohen:
"It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power."

Alice Walker:
“No person is your friend who demands your silence, or denies your right to grow.”

Anais Nin:
“We do not grow absolutely, chronologically. We grow sometimes in one dimension, and not in another; unevenly. We grow partially. We are relative. We are mature in one realm, childish in another. The past, present, and future mingle and pull us backward, forward, or fix us in the present. We are made up of layers, cells, constellations.”

“When we blindly adopt a religion, a political system, a literary dogma, we become automatons. We cease to grow.”

Andy Warhol:
“They say that time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.”

Anne Frank:
“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.”

Eleanor Roosevelt:
“People grow through experience if they meet life honestly and courageously. This is how character is built.”

Epictetus:
“It is impossible for a man to learn what he thinks he already knows.”

Franklin D. Roosevelt:
“When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on.”

Margaret Mead:
“Never doubt that a small, group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

Pearl S. Buck:
"A good marriage is one which allows for change and growth in the individuals and in the way they express their love."

Ralph Waldo Emerson:
"Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow."

Stephen R. Covey:
"We can never really change someone; people must change themselves. But we can help. We can be a resource. We can nurture, encourage and support."

Thomas Hardy:
"Time changes everything except something within us which is always surprised by change."

Tryon Edwards:
"He that never changes his opinions, never corrects his mistakes, and will never be wiser on the morrow than he is today."

Woodrow Wilson:
"If you want to make enemies, try to change something."

William Shakespeare:
"We know what we are, but know not what we may be."
