I love Incubus....

The title of this song is "Adolescents" and it's done by a band you may have heard of, Incubus. There isn't an actual music video for this (yet) so I'm just posting something off youtube since I want to spread the awesomeness of this song and don't want to wait for a legitimate music video, lol. Take a listen.... Even if you've heard it already. ;)

Anyone who knows me (or who has read my blog for long enough) knows that I LOVE Incubus. I love a lot of different music and tons of bands. It's nearly impossible for me to narrow one singer, band, etc down to being my ultimate favor but Incubus is probably it.

This song is a bit of a different style for them but they're always progressing a little here while not straying too far from their sound. I LOVE this song. I was so excited when the local radio station announced they would be playing the new Incubus song the day it came out at a specific time so I could make sure I got to a radio to listen to it. In case I was at work during that time, lol. I cannot wait for their new album to be released in July. I may have already pre-ordered it, in fact. :D

In August of '09 I saw them in concert and due to my boyfriend and his friend who was working during the show, I got upgraded from seats on the lawn to standing right on the rail in the pit, about 12 feet away from the stage. It was probably the best concert I've ever been to in my life. They're just a wonderful band. I could legitimately sit here for an hour gushing about how talented they are, how much I adore them, how fantastically talented Brandon Boyd is, and on and on and on. If you do want to see pictures from that Incubus show or to hear me ramble some more about how awesome they are, click here. I love them so much they have their own label and that's where you'll find more Incubus related posts. :)

Happy Wednesday!

Suckage, charity, Rangers, Brand Boyd & more.

You know what sucks? Unexpectedly stepping on a LEGO block, especially if you catch a corner or if it twists around under you. Fuck that shit. It's a tiny little thing but it's SO very annoying.

More suckage? Paper cuts. Fuck 'em. They're annoying as hell. And they're so small they shouldn't be such a problem. Go figure.

You know what else sucks? My boyfriend gets home from work and gets to bed about an hour before I get up for work. I get home from work after he's already gone to work. By the time he gets home, I'm passed the fuck out. The only day we have off together is Sunday. So even though I live with him, I'm only going to see him one day out of the week. And a few hours on Friday nights. It'll do. At least I'm finally working but man... Lol.

The Boyfriend rented After.Life last night from Redbox. It has Liam Neeson in it. I so love him as an actor. It also has Christina Ricci and she's awesome. I don't usually like movies like that because they tend to be so laughable and ridiculous. "Scary" movies don't scare me and "thrillers" don't usually do much for me either. Blood and gore movies don't bother me either. I actually dig some of those. Mmm, blood and gore. Anyway, I haven't watched it yet.

I find it funny when people criticize other people's taste in movies. "I hate horror movies, I need some substance in my films and blood and scary bits aren't substance." Yeah, but romantic comedies are just packed full of substance, right? Riii-iight. To each their own people. Quit being so fucking critical of EVERYTHING, stop acting like your opinion is the only one and that anyone that likes something you find stupid is also a moron. Pfft. Of course, disagreeing is cool. I just find it ridiculous when people attack someone or get into pitiful little serious trash talking matches over stuff. Good natured jabbing among friends is always fun. Being seriously critical over a difference in opinion over such trivial things? Please.

Put your efforts toward something that actually matters. There are tons of issues in the world really worth fighting for. Pick one of those that means something to you and go for it.

Speaking of which, I'm doing a canned food/non-perishables food drive to give to the local food bank. I'm harassing my friends and their families and other people I know. If any of you in the Dallas area that I know want to let me raid their cabinets, let me know. Or you can drop stuff off to me and I'll take it. Or I can pick it up from you if you want to raid your own cabinets. If I don't know you, sorry, I won't be making any house calls to people I don't know for safety reasons. Though, if you're willing to have me come pick some stuff up? Go ahead and put whatever you would be giving me into a bag or box and drop it off. There's always somewhere that needs something. :)

Donations are always nice, too.

Which reminds me. I'm definitely going to be doing the Toys for Tots blog fundraiser again this year. :D And I'll start doing donations and shopping earlier, too. That way I don't have to go all crazy doing the shopping and dropping off so close to Christmas. If you missed that, you should check that out. It was awesome. :D

Anyway...... I haven't blogged about any sports stuff lately. Even with Turco landing in Chicago and Modano going to Detroit, I decided to skip blogging about both of those hockey topics. Maybe I will. Maybe not. I'm going to talk baseball for a minute. Or several. ;)

FUCK YEAH GREENBERG-RYAN! Buh bye Tom Hicks. Now, to get the Stars sold so they can say buh bye to Hicks, too. I was seriously happy Greenberg and Ryan won the Rangers auction. Now, lets get the ball going, lol. I just.... Cuban? No thank you. Stick to the Mavericks buddy, please and thank you. Speaking of.....

The Rangers won against Seattle last night, 11-6. Not bad considering they were trailing 5-2 going into the 5th inning. ;) I would also like to point out that the Rangers now have an 8 game lead over the A's and an 8 (or 9? I don't want to go check, lol) game lead over the Angels holding down the top slot in the American League West. Now, lets hope they beat Seattle again tonight and keep adding wins on to those numbers. :D I just wish I actually got to watch most of the games. It's a bummer only having network TV sometimes, lol. Considering sports are the main thing I like to watch, no sports channels kills me, lol. Oh well, at least I can follow along thanks to the internet. :D

Oh and fuck me, Brandon Boyd (of Incubus fame) has a solo effort out. I fucking love him. His voice slays me. It's so lovely to my ears. I need to hear the rest of this CD. Maybe in a few weeks I'll be able to afford some frivolous little purchases again. :) For now, here's the song and odd but awesome video for "Runaway Train."

And just because, here's the song "Courage and Control" done to a nice little picture show.

Seriously... his voice.... *swoon* And yes, I love Incubus so much they get their own post label, lol. :D

Happy Thursday!

We'll always have each other...

Today is the last day to enter the sex toy giveaway! I forgot that yesterday was Thursday so I thought it ended yesterday. Oops, my mistake. You still have until midnight central time tonight to get in an entry. Find out how here. Come back Saturday to see who won! There will be a video. ;)

The Boyfriend rented The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus on Wednesday night. It has Heath Ledger, Colin Farrell, Jude Law and Johnny Depp. It looks weird, it is as weird as it looks and it was pretty good too. I'd totally watch it again. Then again, I love strange movies.

This is one of my favorite songs by Incubus.

I fucking love them. They're one of my absolute favorite bands.

Break away from everybody...

The Incubus post plus pictures I took during the show are in this post as well. I just didn't happen to start there. Though, I am starting about music because well, this post is pretty much all about music. One of my favorite bands is a bands that I get a lot of shit for digging. While I love hard rock and metal bands like Lacuna Coil, Bleeding Through, Amon Amarth, Flyleaf, Lamb Of God, Killswitch Engage, Children of Bodom, Trivium, Type O Negative and Rob Zombie to more symphonic/melodic metals bands like Opeth, Sirenia, Nightwish, Epica, Kamelot, Apocalyptica and Avantasia... (and on and on and on, lol) I also like a lot of rock bands that you hear getting played on the radio a lot more regularly. I like tons of bands and artists that get almost no airplay to absolutely no airplay. Doesn't mean I hate everything that I hear on the radio though I do admit, I'd rather have my iPod or a CD going in the car. (Currently, one of the Nightwish CDs we have is in the CD player in the car. I love listening to them while I drive, as does Boyfriend.)

Anyway,
none of those are bands my hard rock, gothy and metalhead friends give me shit over. No, one (of many) bands they give me shit over is Three Days Grace. Yeah, I know some of you reading this just made a face that wasn't entirely pleasant. That's your prerogative to dislike (or like) them. I have have seen them live many times. The first 3 times happened during summer when I was 18.times and no, I didn't have to travel out of the city we lived in at the time to do so. They were touring a lot and opened 2 different shows then came back and played a small show where they were the main thing and didn't even have an opener. I fell for them the first time I saw them live, opening for a much more awesome, popular and harder rock bad. Though I already liked them anyway. You know how sometimes, seeing a band live is either disappointing, right on or you end up liking them even more? Yeah, I liked them so much more after seeing them live. I love the way Adam Gontier's voice sounds. I can also relate really well to the lyrics in a lot of their songs. Also, I love when I see a band perform and you can feel the emotion pouring out of the person singing those words and watching him sing, you can feel the emotion pouring out of him as he sings. Some songs more so than others. He, as well as the actual band, all have killer energy too. They're fun to see. Which is why I've seen them 7 times in the 6 years of fandom. Though the first 3 times was easy as I said.

The thing with me though, my friends and others can give me shit all they want about the music I dig. A few of them really don't understand the concept of being able to like music outside of more than one genre. I like a lot of everything. All kinds of rock, dance/techno, country, hip hop, classical and stuff by bands that came and went before I was even born and some singers that were around before my parents were even alive. I couldn't give a fuck less what anyone has to say about the music I like though. I'm the one that has to listen to the CD's I buy and the music I put on my iPod. So why should I care if anyone else likes it? I'm the one paying for it and listening to it. I have no shame in what I like because music makes me happier than almost anything in the world. Going to see music is pretty much my favorite thing to go out and do. A big concert, a little show at a hole in the wall club, a symphony at the downtown music hall; I dig it all and love going to take it in. I love going to sporting events, love going to bars, love drinking, love shooting pool with friends, love doing this that and the other thing but if I have a chance to go hear some music somewhere, that's my first bet. Music is a big part of my life and a big part of who I am. I don't even understand the concept of owning an embarrassing CD or liking a song and feeling embarrassed or ashamed over it. I like what I like for whatever reasons. I don't mind good natured ribbing about it either but people that want to really be a dick about it do piss me off. Also, good natured ribbing gets really old if it happens too often.

TDG's new album is coming out on the 22nd of this month. I love their other albums and I heard the new song off the new one yesterday. I love it I really fucking wanted to pre-order the new CD and do the $60 package since you get a lot of cool stuff with that. Of course it really doesn't matter, I can't afford it. Though I did sit there pondering over things I could sell on E-bay or people I could get out on corners so I could afford it, lol. Though neither option turned up anything that would get me the $75 I needed for the package. (Shipping fees & tax be damned.) *Sigh*

Oh and about that Incubus concert that I keep forgetting to write about from August 22nd. Okay, so first off. It was at an amphitheater. I couldn't afford tickets but my mom surprised me by telling me she was going to buy me tickets and send me to go. Incubus has been one of my absolute favorite bands for a little over 10 years. I've NEVER got the chance to see them live though. Something always happened to where I couldn't go when they were playing in a city I was in or near. My mom, knowing I'm broke and disappointed that I would again be missing them when they came through, got me tickets. She got me four tickets to be exact. So I could take Boyfriend and two friends. The seats however, were not pit seats, which is fine. I didn't pay for them and I couldn't even afford the cheap seats. I wasn't complaining. I would have been happy to sit outside the amphitheater and listen, lol.

So, we find out that one of Boyfriend's friends is going to be working security at the amphitheater that night. He does security there but wasn't sure if he would get to work Incubus. He did and told us he could get us wristbands and get us down into the pit. We got there, met up with his friend and his friend's uncle who also does security. They walked us down to the other security people who were checking tickets and passing out the wristbands for the pit. They punched our tickets, wristbands were put on and there we went. I was freaking the fuck out. I was excited as hell just being there, finally seeing them. Now, I was in the pit and MUCH closer than I would have been. We were there early too and there was still plenty of room on the rail. The rail being the barrier gate thing set up to keep people from getting on the stage. The only thing in front of me were the security guards. I was so fucking happy.

Stage before Incubus went on.

Also, they put on an AMAZING show. I was dancing, singing and jumping around. I was hot as fuck from all the movement and from everyone being all squished in together. Not that it was a small venue, it's huge actually. The pit is standing room only and once a band is on, it gets squishy in there with everyone trying to get as close as they can. I don't mind that much since I'm always early enough to shows to get a spot on the rail. I don't have to deal with any people in front of me. Just people beside and around, lol.

Brandon Boyd has such a beautiful voice. He sounds just as good in person as he does on the albums. They're interactive, have good stage presence and they just put on a really great show. I was happy they didn't get carried away in the stage show. Just some lights, nothing too much. I hate when you see a band that has more emphasis on the lights, pyrotechnics, videos and in general just making it a really busy, distracting show. I like it more simple, lol. They also played a 3 song encore. I was a very happy girl. Now hopefully I just won't have to wait another decade to see them live again, lol.

I got some pretty cool pictures too. I only had the use of my cell phone for pictures though. I didn't bring my digital camera because heh, I thought we would be sitting back much further, not standing right in front of the fucking stage.

I have all 58 pictures uploaded to my MySpace account. I used MySpace to make a slideshow. Mainly because I uploaded the pictures to MySpace by transferring them directly to the website via my phone. I didn't feel like saving all 58 shots to my computer and then uploading them to my Flickr and then making a slideshow from there. Though I will do that, just not yet, lol. So here are a few I got. Like I said, had to use my camera phone since I didn't bring the digital camera since I wasn't anticipating being so close. If you want to see the rest, watch the blog, I'll post something when I get them all uploaded to my Flickr account.

He didn't change clothes at all during their show, the jeans look like that due to the lights that were going on at that moment, lol.

HAPPY WEDNESDAY!

You're a mountain that I'd like to climb...

I am not the kind of girl who cries much at all. I used to wonder about if something might be wrong with me. I would see things, read things and watch things that others saw, read and watched and they would cry. Happy tears, sad tears. I used to just feel a twinge of something and then feel nothing. I wondered about what might be wrong. I don't wonder about that any more.

Books don't make me cry. I have a couple friends, male and female, who read some books and they just tear up over things in them. Some books fictional, some book non-fictional. I read fiction. I read biographies. I read things both made up and real. I read some horrible things. None of it makes me cry though. I feel anger more often than not when I read of injustice and violence. I read heartbreaking stories and I'll feel sadness but I don't cry. The sadness never lasts long. It always turns to anger, to outrage at injustice.

Blogs sometimes come close to making me spill tears but still, it rarely ever happens. Something can be written with such raw emotion and I may feel like I want to cry, my eyes may water as I relate and understand the pain the person is going through but those tears go away without anything ever spilling over. I don't often try to keep them from spilling over. They just don't. Retreating as quickly if not quicker than they appeared.

Movies don't make me cry. Not even the saddest one or one that has such a deliriously happy ending you have tears of joy pooling in your eyes.

Those TV shows with the gut wrenching episodes that people warn you you'll need a box of tissues for? Even those sports moments, where the players themselves are brought to tears, do nothing for me. I can feel sad, feel sorry, feel this and feel that.

It takes a lot for me to cry though. I've been told before that I'm cold hearted. That I have a black hurt. That I'm this that and the other thing blah blah blah. That's not true at all. I have a big heart and I care a lot more than I tend to let on about things. I don't cry because, I just don't. I feel a lot of things. For one, I think crying is a very private thing. I don't like to have people see me crying. I don't cry in front of people. I don't even have to think about it or fight not to do it because it isn't something I often think about doing. I deal with things in my own way. It may outwardly seem like I'm cold but I'm not. I just don't wear those emotions on my sleeve or anywhere near there.

Music though, it's one of the three things that are the exception to that rule for me. Music can bring me to tears. Tears of sorrow for lyrics that are so mournful for love and life lost. Tears of pain for all the hurt and heartache that gets poured out in so many words and syllables. Tears of joy for songs so bouncing and happy that you just have to laugh and smile because listening to the song makes you so deliriously happy you just have to react in some positive way. Tears of outrage and anger for songs that make me want to scream and smash things. Tears of appreciation because the composed music is so damn beautiful that it makes me ache in such a raw way on the inside. Music makes me feel down to my soul. There aren't a lot of things in the world that make me feel blissfully alive but music is one thing that does. No matter the kind of mood I'm in, I have something I can listen to that can ease me, bring me up, relax me, calm me and on and on. Music is my drug, my addiction, my passion.

I love Incubus. They are one of my favorite bands and have been for such a long time. I always love their music. I have all of their albums. Combine all the songs from each album and there are less than 10 songs by the band that I don't like total. Their lyrics always speak to me in some way.

Their newest is a song called "Black Heart Inertia" and I can't stop listening to it. This song makes me simultaneously feel some conflicting emotions. Sadness and sorrow matched with a deep, aching feeling of happiness, contentment and the urge to squeal happily like a little girl on Christmas morning. I know why those lyrics make me feel that way too but that part, I'll be keeping to myself. =)

Happy Monday!
