A place where I let some of the things running around my mind out to play.
Sexuality, sports, baking, random nonsense, mental health and whatever else I feel compelled to write about.
I've decided I like that title for brain dump type posts. So, thanks to my friends' grandma for giving me the phrase to use. Not that she'll ever see this because she thinks the internet is stupid and a waste of time. As she says, who needs a computer when you have alcohol, good books, 500 TV channels, bingo nights, gardening, a weekly poker night and knitting? Go Granny Go.
I kept seeing people talking about a show called "Portlandia" and didn't think much of it. Then a few of my friends were talking about how great it is. I was bored one night and saw it on NetFlix and decided to give it a go. I was ready to call it quits after the intro. I pushed on and hoped it would get better. I usually have to finish watching something once I start it, no matter how awful it is. I don't know why, I just do. Portlandia was one of those rare exceptions to that rule. I made it 13 minutes before turning it off and it felt like so much longer than 13 minutes. It was painful to watch it for even that long. I was so annoyed for wasting that time. I could have been reading one of my books, watching a documentary, cleaning the toilet or even watching paint dry.
I've also realized, if most people rave about how funny something is, I'm likely not going to agree. That's not me trying to be different or anything, that's just how it works out more often than not. Bridesmaids is a prime example of that. I don't know many others who didn't like it but I thought it was fucking terrible. There wasn't one thing I laughed at in that movie. I'm so glad I don't pay to see movies ever because I would have been annoyed wasting the money and time to sit through that.
Something that drives me crazy at Stars games is the lack of noise people make. I mean, you're not in a fucking library and some yelling and rowdiness is quite encouraged, really. Especially if fans for the other team are trying to start a "Lets Go Red Wings" (or whatever opposing team it is) chant in your team's house. It should really go without saying that if the opposing team's fans get a chant going for their team in your building, you drown them the fuck out by being louder than they are. Show some spirit, damn!
Speaking of hockey, I'm totally bummed I'm not going to the game tonight. It's Steve Ott bobble head night and I really want an Otter bobble head. So if anyone gets an extra one (looking at you, married couples and other couples that live together, lol) and wants to trade it for a Ribeiro or Morrow bobble head, let me know. ;)
I have a cut on the bottom of my left foot that's a little under an inch long. I have no freaking idea how it got there. I rarely walk around without shoes on and I think I would remember cutting my foot open and bleeding. I have no idea where it came from or what happened but it's really annoying. I'm used to having bruises I can't explain but cuts? That's just ridiculous.
I hate when I'm sitting in the living room reading or writing and I look up because I feel like someone's watching me only to see my boyfriend's cat sitting there, just staring at me. It bothers me. I think, even if I weren't seriously allergic to them, I wouldn't be much of a cat person.
I really, really, really love gummy bears. And fruit snacks. I always have a stash of these things because I love them that much. Gummy bears are awesome. I hate gummy worms, though. Those are just weird. Unless they're the really sour ones, I can deal with those.
I got an invite from a friend back in December to use Pinterest. I just set it up yesterday and really have no clue what I'm doing with it yet because I didn't really look at it once I got it set up, lol. If you're on there and want to follow me, let me know. I want some people to follow. You know, once I start using it. :)
I've been listening to this guy's music a lot here recently. I discovered him months ago thanks to Pandora playing his cover of Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir" on my Apocalyptica station. I decided to look up more of his work. I love the violin, it's such a pretty instrument. Here's David Garrett doing "Master of Puppets" by Metallica:
With all the remakes of movies they've been doing lately, I'm dreading the day I see a trailer for the remake of The Breakfast Club. I swear, they better not ever remake that movie. It's perfect the way it is and I love it. There's really no need for it. There's also no need to be remaking old movies anyway. Hollywood needs some creativity sparking or something if the best they can do is remakes of everything and, comic book movies and blood and gore movies with more tits and ass than blood and gore. Not that I mind the comic book movies, really. Though as a comic book nerd, I tend to critique the hell out of the story lines in the movies and that tends to ruin it for me. ;)

I'm going to see one of my favorite bands in concert tonight. OPETH. Hell yeah. For those unfamiliar with their music, well, if you don't dig Swedish melodic metal, you might not like them. I however love and adore them. I've seen them once before. They're new album came out recently and I'm super excited for the show tonight. Going to concerts is one of my absolute favorite things to do. Right up there with going to hockey games and baseball games. Anyway, his voice is beautiful to me. I listen to Opeth a lot when I need to relax but they're good any time. I'm so freaking excited for tonight. :D
------------------
The Rangers beat the Tampa Bay Rays yesterday and ended that series. Rays are done for the season and the Rangers move on to the ALCS. We'll face either the Yankees or the Tigers, depending on which team wins their series. I'm excited. I love baseball and playoffs are so exciting, nerve racking, emotionally distressing and fun. I'm just so happy the Rangers made the playoffs again this year and I'll be even happier getting to watch them play in the World Series again this year. :D What? I'm optimistic. ;)

Also, THE DALLAS STARS START THEIR REGULAR SEASON ON FRIDAY! HOCKEY IS BACK! YEAH BOY! I'm excited by that, too. Obviously. I can't wait for the game on Friday. I went to two preseason games and while those are fun, they're not near as awesome as regular season is. The fun of preseason is getting to watch a lot of up and coming guys playing and watching some of the young guys progress as players. Definitely saw some guys with exciting promise during preseason and I'm sure several of them are going to do great things once they get some more experience under their feet. Another thing that I'm excited about for Friday? I get to use the awesome new camera the boyfriend got for me to take some awesome pictures during the game. If I remember to. I get to busy watching, sometimes I forget to take any pictures of the action. YAY HOCKEY!
------------------
This is still my favorite thing I've overheard in a bar:
Guy: "Stop being a vagina! Shut it!" Girl: "Fine. Don't expect it to open once we get home though, asshole."
Seriously. I still laugh when I think about that and it happened a week ago, haha.

My boyfriend is awesome. He got me half a dozen of my favorite sugar cookies from a cookie shop at the mall I freaking love. They're the best sugar cookies I've ever had and I haven't had any in the longest time. I love that he surprises me with little things that I like instead of getting stupid little cliche things.

I really miss our dog. She died back in July so it's been a few months. I saw someone yesterday walking their dog and she looked a lot like Akasha. It made me really sad. Sometimes, I sit out in the backyard on the back porch steps with a book and wish I could just have her back there again. Sneak her a treat for no reason or something. Or I'll be laying in bed and hear the roommates dog barking or the neighbors' dogs making noise and I'll think about how she was such a good dog and never made a lot of noise unless there was a reason to. Sometimes I look out the kitchen window into the yard and think I'll see her out there running around or playing with the roommates dog or just laying out under the trees in the shade. It's weird how the mind works sometimes. It's like I forget she's dead for a few seconds and then it sinks back in. It's not that I forget really, it's just that I don't think about it. I'm kind of anxious for a new dog now but at the same time, I'm not really ready for a new pup and I know the boyfriend isn't either. Hopefully sometime soon that will change, though. I miss having a furry buddy.

Soon, my hair will be a lovely burgundy color again. :D I might even post pictures. I love having dark red hair. I might wait until after Halloween to do it, though. Depends on what I decide to do for my favorite holiday.
The title of this song is "Adolescents" and it's done by a band you may have heard of, Incubus. There isn't an actual music video for this (yet) so I'm just posting something off youtube since I want to spread the awesomeness of this song and don't want to wait for a legitimate music video, lol. Take a listen.... Even if you've heard it already. ;)
Anyone who knows me (or who has read my blog for long enough) knows that I LOVE Incubus. I love a lot of different music and tons of bands. It's nearly impossible for me to narrow one singer, band, etc down to being my ultimate favor but Incubus is probably it.
This song is a bit of a different style for them but they're always progressing a little here while not straying too far from their sound. I LOVE this song. I was so excited when the local radio station announced they would be playing the new Incubus song the day it came out at a specific time so I could make sure I got to a radio to listen to it. In case I was at work during that time, lol. I cannot wait for their new album to be released in July. I may have already pre-ordered it, in fact. :D
In August of '09 I saw them in concert and due to my boyfriend and his friend who was working during the show, I got upgraded from seats on the lawn to standing right on the rail in the pit, about 12 feet away from the stage. It was probably the best concert I've ever been to in my life. They're just a wonderful band. I could legitimately sit here for an hour gushing about how talented they are, how much I adore them, how fantastically talented Brandon Boyd is, and on and on and on. If you do want to see pictures from that Incubus show or to hear me ramble some more about how awesome they are, click here. I love them so much they have their own label and that's where you'll find more Incubus related posts. :)
TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO DONATE TO THE TOYS FOR TOTS FUNDRAISER!!!!!
If you are one of the few that have donated this year, thank you! I appreciate it and I'm going to have fun spending the money on toys when I go shopping on my day off Sunday. :)
Today is my dad's birthday. He doesn't read my blog, thankfully. I'm pretty sure he's one of the few people left in my family that hasn't seen it. Hopefully anyway, haha. I digress. We haven't always got along. He wasn't always around when I was growing up. I didn't always understand why and I didn't always understand him. I still don't always understand him but I know he's caring, hard working, loving and a damn good man. I see a lot of traits in myself that I know I get from him and they're things I admire about him for the most part. :) I'm lucky to have him. Happy Birthday dad!
The Stars play tonight. Against the Sharks. They played the Sharks Monday in San Jose. They won the game in a shootout. You see that game? Jamie Benn's shootout goal was fucking awesome. I suppose if you're not into hockey you wouldn't appreciate it but dude, it was beautiful. Hopefully they can win tonight in regulation. I like when they win in OT/SO because fuck yeah winning but I much prefer a win in regulation so they're not still giving up a point to the other side.
Some people have asked what I want for Christmas. Merely for curiosity purposes so I'll post a little bit of what I want.
Tickets to the Stars/Canucks game on New Years Eve. I actually have NYE off (I usually work) and I've never been to a game where we played the Canucks before. I so badly want to see them since we don't play Vancouver often and they're one of the few times I've yet to see.
Gift cards. I know a lot of people say they're impersonal but the Boyfriend and I will be getting our own place at the beginning of the year again. Only thing is we have very little to take with us so I wanted gift cards to various places to help buy items we need. Then I was informed it was rude to ask for stuff like that since I should be asking for things I want not things we need.
New shoes and clothes. I have a pair of shoes, a pair of flats, a pair of heels and a pair of flip flops. My shoes take a beating since I have one pair and wear them constantly, lol. And clothes is something I just don't spend money on so I need some stuff that isn't worn or torn.
The other stuff on my list are books, CDs, DVDs and minor kitchen stuff.
What's on your wish list this year? :) I always enjoy seeing what other people ask for. I don't think it gives insight into that person always but sometimes it does. It also sometimes unveils interests I might not have otherwise known a person had. So comment and tell me what you want, please? ;)
I'm going to try my hand at making gingerbread cupcakes on Sunday after I do the toy shopping. Or before I do the toy shopping. Either way, I'm trying out the recipe I found. I've never made gingerbread cupcakes before and also never even eaten a gingerbread cupcake before. I LOVE gingerbread cookies, though. So when I saw an easy recipe for gingerbread cupcakes and saw that we already have the stuff to make them? Totally couldn't pass up trying to make them. Here's hoping they turn out well, lol.
Sexy yet supportive bras for chicks with really big boobs are hard to find. Bra shopping always irritates the fuck out of me. I've said before that I just need to make my own line of bras for busty chicks but I've never really been serious about it. I think I need to give it a real shot, though. It's not a bad idea and there's a definite need for it out there. I just have to figure out how to go about doing this.
The title of today's post doesn't have anything to do with anything in the post, so to speak. It's a line out of this song... "Time To Take My Drunk Ass Home" by Luke Bryan. Give it a listen. Though, it's a country song so if you hate country you probably won't dig it. The song amuses me and I like Luke Bryan. Yes, I like country music and no, not everyone in Texas does so shhh.
That's enough rambling. Remember, today is the LAST DAY to donate to the Toys for Tots fundraiser. Even if it's only $2 or $5, you'll be making a difference. :)
I hate when a supposed mature adult makes a mistake then won't own it. Sure, at times it's embarrassing to fuck up. No one likes messing up. Most people dislike being wrong, especially if they believed they were right. It happens. Admit it and do what's right to make things better. If that requires a "hey, I was wrong and I'm sorry" then own up and do what needs to be done to make the situation better.
Ahem... This song has no relevance to the post but I want to post it anyway because I love it and can't get it out of my head here lately. "Say You'll Haunt Me" by Stone Sour. LOVE.
Also, there are only a couple days left to donate to my Toys for Tots fundraiser so if you haven't yet and still want to; time is running out to do it! Thanks so much to those that did donate! I appreciate it so much. :)
Last week was ROUGH. Mentally, emotionally, draining, stressful, blah blah blah. Just rough, all the way around. Here's hoping this week is better. :)
The Stars play the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight, in Toronto. They're having a rough time winning games on the road. If this happens to be the case for tonight's game, that might just make me sad, lol. I'm not saying the Leafs suck mind you, just that, you know, my Stars are better. :D
I'll be at work during the game but eh, what else is new? I'm always at work. Even yesterday (Sunday's are my day off) I ended up working an extra shift. It's not like my boss just tacked it on me. I did offer to pick it up since there was a need. And I need the money. On the way there, I was wishing I had just turned it down. It wasn't a very long shift anyway and I should have just enjoyed getting a night off and used it relaxing. And doing laundry, cleaning and all the other stuff I don't ever have time to do that all need doing, lol. So, my next day off is Thanksgiving. At least I get that day off. The Boyfriend has to work, so... yeah. Suckage.
The day after Thanksgiving is Little Sister's birthday. Friday she'll be 20. I seriously can't believe she's turning 20. That's insane, I swear she was just turning 13. Or some such much younger number than that, lol.
I got some awesome (and warm) fuzzy socks. Three pairs for $3. I do love me some socks, especially cozy ones for a good price. I have so many pairs of socks. I love socks and hats like so many woman love shoes I guess. I have less than 5 pairs of shoes. I have more than 30 hats and I don't even know how many pairs of socks. The fuzzy, super comfy ones I'm wearing right now are purple and baby blue striped. Look at all this color that's seeped into my wardrobe in the last year. Okay, so mainly I've let a little purple, blue and red into my mostly black wardrobe but whatever; it's a start. ;)
If you haven't yet and want to, there's still plenty of time to donate to the Toys for Tots Fundraiser. :) I've updated the post stuck on top of the blog with the link of a newer post wherein I took some pictures of some of the toys I went and got already. Check it out and remember, every few dollars really does help. :)
BAWLS energy drink is 1) fun to say because well, BAWLS! And 2) possibly the most delicious tasting energy drink ever because it doesn't taste like an energy drink. :)
What was the last thing you put in your mouth?: Milk.
How late did you stay up last night and why?: On Friday, 8 AM... which technically was Saturday morning. Having an unpleasant conversation and some crying. Then got up at 1 pm Saturday afternoon to get ready for work. I'm going to sleep after I finish this, probably but it's almost 5 AM Saturday night/Sunday morning. And I'm up this late because I have a lot on my mind and can't sleep. :/
If you could move somewhere else, would you?: Yes. Definitely. I dislike my current living situation and cannot wait until I can afford to move else where.
Have you ever been kissed under fireworks?: Yes. It's really not that big of a deal for me, honestly. I don't get what's special about it.
Do you believe ex’s can be friends?: Depends on how things ended and why. I still have an ex from when I was 17 that I'm friends with. We do fine but we were better friends before we dated, same stood for after, lol.
When was the last time you cried really hard?: Friday, Saturday. I don't cry often honestly but when I do? Sheesh.
What items could you not go without during the day?: Food, water. :D I would hate to be without my cell phone, too. I could deal with it for the day if I had to. I'd also hate to be without music and tea as well for a day.
Who was the last person you visited in the hospital?: My grandpa.
How do you feel about your life right now?: Mostly, I'm happy. Just lately... well. Some areas need some work. :/
If we were to look in your facebook inbox, what would we find?: Messages! :p
Say you were given a drug test right now, would you pass?: Of course.
Has anyone ever called you perfect before?: No, haha. And I'm fine with that. I don't fancy being lied to. :)
Someone knocks on your window at 2:00 a.m.: who do you want it to be?: Publisher's Clearing House telling me they're about to give me an obscene amount of money which would excuse them from being dubbed creepy for knocking on windows at 2 AM.
Do you think too much or too little?: Too much at times and too little at others.
Do you believe in fairy tales?: Nope.
Have you ever licked the back of a CD to try to get it to work?: I probably have at some point in my life. I was also probably drunk during this occurrence.
What’s the largest age difference between yourself and someone you’ve dated?: 10 years.
Have you ever been on a blind date?: NO.
Do you have any friends that you’ve known for 10 years or more?: Yes.
Have you ever had a crush on a teacher?: Hmm... yes, he was a teacher. Not one of mine but still, a teacher.
What song do you want played at your funeral?: I don't know.
Would you tell your parents if you were gay?: My mom knows I'm bisexual so I imagine if I were homosexual, she would know about it.
What would your last meal be before getting executed?: Never ending soup, salad and breadsticks from Olive Garden. They'll keep serving me, I'll keep nibbling and there we go; beat the system.
Do you walk around the house naked?: No... but I don't live alone. When I had my own place I did from time to time.
What do you do as soon as you walk in the house?: Lock the door. :D Aside from that? It varies. If I have bags from the grocery store, I go to the kitchen to sit them down. If I have bags from else where, I go to the appropriate room to sit them down. If I have to pee, I haul ass to the bathroom. If I'm thirsty, I get a drink. Like I said, varies. I never do the same thing in a row once I lock the door, lol. I'm not a very routine kind of person.
Who is the person you can count on the most?: Myself.
What is your favorite Holiday?: Halloween.
Would you ever get plastic surgery?: No.
Have you ever caught a fish?: Yes.
What is the first thing you notice about people?: It varies, lol. Sometimes hair, sometimes clothes, sometimes height, sometimes makeup, sometimes their body language. It's never the same all the time.
What is the farthest you’ve been from home?: Far.
How did you meet your spouse or significant other (or most recent one)?: By saying hi.
Where was the last place you drove (other than home/school/work)?: Grocery store for some ice cold milk for my cereal. Mmm.
Unrelated to this post, here's a video. It's lovely. The music, not the "video" itself, lol.
I had a blogger/Twitter person send me Direct Messages on Twitter yesterday wanting to argue with me about something. She tweeted something and since I wasn't busy yesterday, I saw it and wanted to wish her luck in dealing with her crappy situation. She replied back with something snarky which ended up pissing me off. Basically it was a few comments about how it was nice of me to take time out of my busy life and acknowledge her.
I work 6 days a week. I don't work 9-5. I work double shifts most days. I work 11 am to 2 or 3 pm and then I have an hour or two off for a lunch break. I don't live close enough to go home so I grab lunch and then read a book while I waste the break time. Then I usually work 4 pm to close or 5 pm to close. So literally, I spend the whole day at work most days and I don't work a job where I'm at a desk on a computer. I'm on my feet and dealing with customers face to face the majority of the time. That doesn't leave me much free time for my real life and the people in it much less time to go check blogs and keep up with everyone on Twitter. The free time I do have, I'd rather spend with my boyfriend or friends or doing laundry or getting some errands done.
I didn't feel a need to defend myself against her snark so, I didn't. Which got me a few more messages from her getting more irritated because I wouldn't engage her in a silly argument online and wouldn't apologize for not being able to get online every to read her blog and tweets. So, she threatened to unfollow me and quit reading my blog. I told her to go for it. Also, if you get annoyed by people talking about sports a lot, you probably shouldn't follow my blog or follow me on Twitter. I'm not going to get my feelings hurt over someone unfollowing my blog or my Twitter and I'm not going to make a big production out of it because I really don't care. Anyway, lets hit some positives.
October 14th is the Stars home opener! We're more than halfway through September. I cannot wait for hockey season to get going. Training camp started over the weekend. I'm so ready for it. Baseball's great but in terms of sports, nothing beats hockey for me. :D I am excited about how well the Rangers have been doing this season, though. That's so nice to see. I'm hoping they keep on doing well and do great in the playoffs.
The Stars have some games before the 14th but that's the first home game. Which I was going to be very sad if I didn't get to go to, lol. One of my friends have a "we're doomed" attitude about the Stars this season. I'm kind of excited to see how it goes. We have some new players, Modano and Turco are gone, they're rebuilding as a team and I'm unsure how I feel about the direction it's all going. Even if seeing Modano (who has been my favorite player since I was 9) play for another team is going to suck, I'm still looking forward to the changes the team has made and hoping they will turn out to be good changes.
Lastly, a video of the musical variety. I know a lot of people dislike country so if you're one of them? Don't play this one, lol. I like country and I love Keith Urban. The actual video to this song is here but the embedding is disabled so instead of messing around with it, I just found one with the song on there. If you like the song, go watch the video. I love it. This song? Perfect way to spend a lazy Sunday (or any day...;D), raining or not. :)
Musical Monday brings you "Maybe" by Sick Puppies. I love this band. They rock live. He seriously sounds better live and they put on a hell of a show. I don't relate to this song but I love it anyway.
I took The Boyfriend out for dinner last night. Nothing fancy or anything but it was nice to have the day off work and to go out to dinner with him. I hardly ever see him anymore because our work schedules clash. We live together and I see him one day out of the week since we both have Sundays off. I now really like Sunday. :p
The Boyfriend starts his new job in one week. I'm quite happy for him. I'm also happy that we'll be able to move out and live on our own again, just the two of us. I miss having my own place. I won't miss having to share a living space with other people. Or a cat. I'm not a cat person. Mostly because I'm seriously allergic to them and I'm not fond of anything that makes me feel disgusting and miserable.
I was out yesterday and heard a group of women in their mid-thirties complaining about how Paris Hilton is not news-worthy. And by heard, I mean they were standing behind me in line and discussing loudly that nothing she does should be news-worthy. This, amuses me. Why? Because all the other celebrities *are* much more news-worthy, eh? *rolls eyes*
There's a customer that comes into my job that looks like Henrik Zetterberg of the Detroit Red Wings. He's come in a few times now, his check is usually $15 or a little less but so far he always tips $10. He's nice, polite and kind of funny. And tips well. And doesn't make a huge mess. I like him, haha.
I have a Tumblr app on my cell now. I'm not on my laptop much since I'm so busy lately, lol. If the app works well, I'll be able to use Tumblr more since I always have my phone on me. Well, I'll have the ability to use it more but no promise that I actually will. Though, I did post a LOT on there yesterday while I was enjoying doing very little on my day off. :p
HOCKEY SEASON STARTS SOON. :D
And lastly, this quote? I LOVE IT.
“I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I’m not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.” - Robert McCloskey
You know what sucks? Unexpectedly stepping on a LEGO block, especially if you catch a corner or if it twists around under you. Fuck that shit. It's a tiny little thing but it's SO very annoying.
More suckage? Paper cuts. Fuck 'em. They're annoying as hell. And they're so small they shouldn't be such a problem. Go figure.
You know what else sucks? My boyfriend gets home from work and gets to bed about an hour before I get up for work. I get home from work after he's already gone to work. By the time he gets home, I'm passed the fuck out. The only day we have off together is Sunday. So even though I live with him, I'm only going to see him one day out of the week. And a few hours on Friday nights. It'll do. At least I'm finally working but man... Lol.
The Boyfriend rented After.Life last night from Redbox. It has Liam Neeson in it. I so love him as an actor. It also has Christina Ricci and she's awesome. I don't usually like movies like that because they tend to be so laughable and ridiculous. "Scary" movies don't scare me and "thrillers" don't usually do much for me either. Blood and gore movies don't bother me either. I actually dig some of those. Mmm, blood and gore. Anyway, I haven't watched it yet.
I find it funny when people criticize other people's taste in movies. "I hate horror movies, I need some substance in my films and blood and scary bits aren't substance." Yeah, but romantic comedies are just packed full of substance, right? Riii-iight. To each their own people. Quit being so fucking critical of EVERYTHING, stop acting like your opinion is the only one and that anyone that likes something you find stupid is also a moron. Pfft. Of course, disagreeing is cool. I just find it ridiculous when people attack someone or get into pitiful little serious trash talking matches over stuff. Good natured jabbing among friends is always fun. Being seriously critical over a difference in opinion over such trivial things? Please.
Put your efforts toward something that actually matters. There are tons of issues in the world really worth fighting for. Pick one of those that means something to you and go for it.
Speaking of which, I'm doing a canned food/non-perishables food drive to give to the local food bank. I'm harassing my friends and their families and other people I know. If any of you in the Dallas area that I know want to let me raid their cabinets, let me know. Or you can drop stuff off to me and I'll take it. Or I can pick it up from you if you want to raid your own cabinets. If I don't know you, sorry, I won't be making any house calls to people I don't know for safety reasons. Though, if you're willing to have me come pick some stuff up? Go ahead and put whatever you would be giving me into a bag or box and drop it off. There's always somewhere that needs something. :)
Donations are always nice, too.
Which reminds me. I'm definitely going to be doing the Toys for Tots blog fundraiser again this year. :D And I'll start doing donations and shopping earlier, too. That way I don't have to go all crazy doing the shopping and dropping off so close to Christmas. If you missed that, you should check that out. It was awesome. :D
Anyway...... I haven't blogged about any sports stuff lately. Even with Turco landing in Chicago and Modano going to Detroit, I decided to skip blogging about both of those hockey topics. Maybe I will. Maybe not. I'm going to talk baseball for a minute. Or several. ;)
FUCK YEAH GREENBERG-RYAN! Buh bye Tom Hicks. Now, to get the Stars sold so they can say buh bye to Hicks, too. I was seriously happy Greenberg and Ryan won the Rangers auction. Now, lets get the ball going, lol. I just.... Cuban? No thank you. Stick to the Mavericks buddy, please and thank you. Speaking of.....
The Rangers won against Seattle last night, 11-6. Not bad considering they were trailing 5-2 going into the 5th inning. ;) I would also like to point out that the Rangers now have an 8 game lead over the A's and an 8 (or 9? I don't want to go check, lol) game lead over the Angels holding down the top slot in the American League West. Now, lets hope they beat Seattle again tonight and keep adding wins on to those numbers. :D I just wish I actually got to watch most of the games. It's a bummer only having network TV sometimes, lol. Considering sports are the main thing I like to watch, no sports channels kills me, lol. Oh well, at least I can follow along thanks to the internet. :D
Oh and fuck me, Brandon Boyd (of Incubus fame) has a solo effort out. I fucking love him. His voice slays me. It's so lovely to my ears. I need to hear the rest of this CD. Maybe in a few weeks I'll be able to afford some frivolous little purchases again. :) For now, here's the song and odd but awesome video for "Runaway Train."
And just because, here's the song "Courage and Control" done to a nice little picture show.
Seriously... his voice.... *swoon* And yes, I love Incubus so much they get their own post label, lol. :D
I think I look pretty snazzy in huge glasses with a very large nose and a decent looking mustache. Don't you? Probably not but that's cool, lol.
I like to do goofy things. Not for attention but to make people laugh. I don't care about getting the attention. My goal is to always make people around me smile or laugh or at least be mildly amused by my ridiculousness. I like my environment to stay fun, laid back and happy as much as possible. I like to help achieve that by acting... well, like I do. :D
Also, I realized I still had not posted any shots of my new hair style courtesy of (one of) my awesome best friends hooking me up with a cut and color from the comfort of my own home. So, here's a good little preview of what my hair looks like now.
For some "before" shots of what my hair was looking like color and length wise? Here for the length. Here and here for the color. My hair was quite a ways down my back. When Fangs cut it, he took a little more than 5 inches off of the longest layer. It feels so much lighter now. My hair was so long and heavy. In this summer heat and humidity? IT WAS KILLING ME. Lol. I'm also happy with the color. After I find out about my new job's policy about hair coloring, I might look into adding some color to it. :D Or, I might just leave it as is since I do like this color and there are some red tones through out it.
Moving on...... Thanks to everyone for all the comments on yesterday's post. I did appreciate all the advice on how to get some clothes.
When I talk about having mostly only guy friends, I'm seriously not joking. My two best female friends? One lives close to San Jose, CA and the other lives in Las Vegas. Those were both chicks I met when I lived and worked in CA. Here? I don't have any female friends I'm close with or that I even talk to or see on a regular basis. All of my friends that I'm close with and see a lot on a regular basis are guys. I do have a couple female friends but they're not close to the size I wear and I'm not good enough friends with any of them to borrow clothes from them if they were near my size.
Borrowing from family doesn't work either. My parents and siblings live in CA. I have aunts and a few female cousins but one aunt doesn't live at all close to me, the other doesn't live too far away but her clothes wouldn't fit anyway. I have two female cousins and I wouldn't be able to wear their clothes either. I also wouldn't even feel comfortable asking due to the fact that I'm not very close with either of them. I don't even have either of their cell phone numbers to be honest.
I really did appreciate all of the suggestions, though. Thank you! I love that people read my blog and want to offer me up advice when I'm in need of it. Y'all are awesome. And I totally have the information stored away in my mind now if I ever need to know these things again. You never know when things will come in handy. :D
I also didn't have enough money to go buy anything either. I had $11 in my checking account and that's literally all the money I had. I've sold a lot of stuff in the last few months. One to clear out some junk and two because it was money for groceries or other stuff I might have needed. I did have some other stuff I was going to attempt to sale but turns out, I won't need to be doing that. Thankfully. I don't honestly have much stuff as it is, lol. That comes from moving around a lot and wanting to keep everything down to a minimum so I didn't have much to pack and unpack but I digress.
No worries, though. I've got a couple wonderful people that have offered to help me out with some stuff and it'll be enough until I've got some money and can buy some stuff on my own. I'll wait for Monday to post more details on that, though. Mainly because I want to be able to include some pictures of some stuff and give all of the details so I can brag about how awesome some of the people in my life are and this thing has gotten long enough already. I'm totally excited for Monday. I've HATED not working. I started working when I was 13 doing whatever kind of odd stuff I could do to make money and got my first real job at 15 and have worked steadily since then. So not having a job has been killing me. Not having money sucks and makes living hard. Being at home most of the time ( drives me nuts) and not doing much fun and not seeing my friends has sucked. Mainly, though? I just really love to work and love how productive and happy I feel when I'm working. Not having that has been really bad for my mental and emotional well being and I've been far more unhappy, stressed and upset than I've let on. But anyway... like I said, this has gotten long enough already. ;)
Here's a music video. "If You Could Only See" by Tonic. This has been one of my favorite songs for many years.
Check out some other stuff I posted to Twitter via TwitPic. You know, if you want to. ;) There's a couple pictures of an awesome zebra striped hot pink pimp hat plus some other rad stuff.
I NEED SOME SECRETS for my Saturday posts. :D If you want to submit a secret for me to use tomorrow then just e-mail it to me: amorousrocker [at] gmail [dot] com. Or leave it as a comment here anonymously if you want to do it that way and I'll copy it and use it tomorrow. And now, one last picture.... :)
Thanks to everyone that commented on this post. I appreciate the comments and the couple e-mails I got in response to it. I don't appreciate the negative comments that are full of name calling and insults. If you left those, they didn't get posted, obviously. I don't mind people disagreeing with me. Not one bit. However, calling me a bitch and telling me I have my head stuck up a camel's ass along with a sleuth of other random and giggle inducing insults? Not going to publish that shit. Disagree with me all you want but articulate your point without being insulting and rude.
I NEED SOME SECRETS for my Saturday posts. :D If you want to submit a secret for me to use next weekend (COME ON, DON'T BE SHY! :D) then just e-mail it to me: amorousrocker [at] gmail [dot] com. Or leave it as a comment here anonymously if you want to do it that way and I'll copy it and use it for next weekend's Secrets post. ;)
I posted that picture on my Tumblr yesterday after I saw it posted on Laken's Tumblr. I love rainbows and with the angle of the picture and the road covered with stuff fresh after some rain? It just looks beautiful to me.
I started reading "Alice In Wonderland" again a few days ago. I haven't read that book in years but decided I wanted to re-read it. It's still one of my favorites. I love that I haven't read it in so long but still remember most of it. Though, some bits I forgot so it's nice when I get to a part I don't remember. I've also been reading Edgar Allen Poe again here lately. I think it's been a good 6 months since I picked up a poetry book and read. I always feel like drawing after I read Poe. Not sure why. It just inspires me creatively in an odd way. :D
I tweeted this yesterday: "People almost always react funny when I say I don't particularly like bacon. I'm not a pork person. I don't like the meat Babe has to offer." I immediately got some joking tweets about people not being able to like me, love me or be online buddies with me any longer because I'm not a big fan of bacon. I got one tweet from someone who could relate. Then twomore from people who don't eat any meat. I never quite get what the big deal about not liking bacon is. When I was younger, I LOVED it. I stopped liking it around the time I started working a job as a teenager where I worked around bacon and smelled it ALL THE TIME. After smelling it and seeing it so much, I didn't like it as much and only ate it on burgers. Then, I went from working around it and smelling it to actually getting to cook the bacon once I was working the opening shift. More than a pound of it. 6 mornings a week. I already didn't like it but that? Totally put me off of it. I just amuses me (and admittedly baffles a little bit, too) how people react to me not liking bacon. Like it's some sort of mortal crime or something. I could say I dislike sausage (which I do, seriously, not a pork person) and it doesn't get near the reaction not liking the All Mighty Bacon gets. People are crazy about bacon. *nods*
Musical Monday video for today? "Glycerine" by Bush. They have been one of my favorite bands since I was 14 and first heard one of their songs on the radio. I really enjoy their songs. I like and relate to a lot of what their songs are about. Also? I LOVE Gavin Rossdale's beautiful voice. *swoon*
Yesterday, I went with The Boyfriend to his car club meeting. After the meeting, we went with a group of the car club people to hang out at one of the car club couple's house. The couple are friends of The Boyfriend and I and they're one of the few people in the car club I actually like, lol. Anyway. A group of us were hanging out at their house and one of the women had gotten Hot Tub Time Machine while picking up snacks to bring over. She had seen it already but got it because she wanted to buy it and thought it would be fun for us to all watch it. She was sitting on the love seat with her new boyfriend and she starts talking about parts in the movie... before they happen. Then they happen and she's like, "See, told you that was funny." Ahahaha, it might have been funnier had I not already been ready for it to happen. I don't like this girl (woman really, I think she's 34 or 35) because she's obnoxious, pretentious, thinks she knows everything and she's a bitch. Not that I needed any more reason to dislike her but there was another one. I dislike when people talk through a movie. I'm okay with a little chatter here and there but not a lot of it. I also just really hate when people give away stuff that happens in movies before it happens. Especially when they know they're the only one in the room that has actually seen the movie. I wanted to take my shoe off and hit her with it. Though, that wouldn't have gone over well. In theory, that stuff is always fun sounding. In reality, it would have caused more trouble than it would have been worth. She's pretty good friends with the female half of our couple friends and out of the 8 people there, only me and another person there really dislike this woman. I don't like causing drama so I didn't throw my shoe. I did make a comment about hating getting narration from the audience. She got the hint, glared at me but shut up after that.
Saturday night (or technically Sunday morning since it was 1:00 AM :p), after The Boyfriend got home from work, we played Scrabble. LONGEST GAME EVER. Probably not but it was longer than any other Scrabble game we've played before. It was a very close game too. But.... I won. :D *victory dance*I love playing Scrabble, though. Especially with him because it's always a good game.
I think Midnight Pomegranate lotion from Bath & Body Works smells like SweetTarts candy. It smells a little like pomegranate to me but mostly, it just smells like the candy.
Earlier Saturday night, I was bored and trying to figure out something to keep myself busy with and decided to go clean the bathroom. I was going to clean the toilet but the scrubby brush to do so has gone M.I.A. I really hate when inanimate objects sprout legs & run off. I have no clue where it was but Sunday, it was back in it's spot. I hate when that happens.
I tweeted this around 8 PM Saturday night: I'm wearing a green glow bracelet. Friend asked why. I said, "In case I run into Superman. I'll fuck his world up." That tweet got retweeted by 13 different people. Which amused the hell out of me. I love when people get amused by the silly things I say.
I love this song. I have no reason behind why I'm posting it other than that. :)
"Black Balloon" by Goo Goo Dolls. <--click for the lyrics. :) This has been one of my favorite songs for a little more than 10 years. It trips me out when I realize how old I was when I started listening to this band. Or rather, how young I was. This song is from a CD that came out in 1998. I don't have a lot of Cd's I even still own from that long ago but I still have this one and I still listen to it. Obviously. ;) This is probably my favorite song off the whole album. This song used to make me sad and I never understood why, exactly. I'd listen to it and just feel sad for no apparent reason yet, I still loved the song. It's weird how music can play on your emotions like that sometimes. I listen to it now and I still feel the tiniest bit of sadness but mostly, it makes me smile. Not because it's an extremely happy song. There's no rainbows or fairy dust shooting out of anywhere.
Anyway.
You know what's fun? Having a 3+ hour conversation with your boyfriend on topics ranging from defining sexual terms that weren't understood (genderqueer, pansexual, etc & they're understood now :D) to the oil spill in the gulf to self-entitlement to patriarchy to evolution and a couple other things. And I mean fun in all seriousness. Even when we don't agree, though with what was listed we pretty much agree on things, we never get angry and try to make the other person try to bend their views. He can accept that I might not see something his way and same goes for me. It never turns into an argument, it never turns petty and it never turns into something useless that causes frustration and headaches because one side wants the other side to see it their way and come around to their way of thinking. Then again, we mostly agree on those types of things but once in a while there are things we do disagree on that are touchy. It's fun because we can share our views and not get into an argument over anything, even when we don't agree on something the other feels passionate about. It's always just an intelligent, rational discussion between two people who don't always agree but can respect the opinion of the other.
Also fun? Laying in a freshly cleaned bed playing Scrabble with the boyfriend. I love Scrabble and he's gotten in to playing it lately. Which I love. :D He's got a game on his iPhone where we can both play since I no longer own the actual board game. I would rather lay on the bed and play the actual board game (we don't have any type of table to play on) but such is life. Maybe when I can get the board game again we can do that. The game on his phone works just fine, though. :)
Most people take me as a hard rock/metal chick and assume that's all I listen to. Not true. Not at all. I listen to a lot of metal and hard rock. I also listen to classic rock. I also listen to Frank Sinatra, P!nk, Lifehouse, The Goo Goo Dolls, Opeth, Keith Urban, Neyo and tons of other stuff from plenty of different genres. I don't limit myself to one type of music. Hard rock & metal? Well, that just happens to be what I dig the most.
Lately though, I've been feeling pretty down so I've been listening to some more mellow stuff a bit more often than I normally do.
This always has and likely always will be one of my favorite songs. I never even saw the movie and I liked this band before that movie ever came out. I love his voice. I love this song because I can identify with the lyrics so well. Maybe not precisely as the writer intended but perception is, at times, a wonderful thing.
In a perfect world, what 7 foods would you make completely healthy but they would still taste just as good as they do now? Pizza, ice cream, fried chicken, cupcakes, spaghetti, waffles and Chipotle burritos.
If the Dallas Stars moved away to another state or city, would you still be loyal to them? Yes but I'd be pissed. I'd be sad about not getting to go to Stars games any more, too. That would suck. Luckily the AAC and the Stars have an agreement that prevents the Stars from leaving Dallas.
If someone paid you one million tax free dollars, would you openly cheer against the Stars during a game while attending said game? Uh... possibly. That's a lot of money and I'm broke as hell. And seriously, that's a lot of money. I'd probably agree to do it for the money and then forget about it, lol. Can I cheer against certain players on my team that I dislike instead? :D
Those 3 questions were posed to me by a reader. She asked if I would answer them on my blog instead of just replying to her e-mail. I said sure so there you are. :)
I love being able to see my blog stats and see some of the odd things people Google that some how put them on my blog. :D I wonder how disappointed they are sometimes when they find a boring blog that has nothing to do with their search, though. :)
One of my friends was going to attempt to burn me copies of her P90X DVDs and mail them to me. (She moved 7 hours away from Dallas so going over to them or do the work outs with her is not feasible.) Then she found out the burner she has doesn't burn DVDs. It also doesn't burn music either. Apparently spilling orange soda on electronics ruins them. Who would have thought that? :p (She spilled a soda on it a month ago, cleaned it off on the surface with a towel and assumed it would be fine. Aye.)
I don't get why people get free things and then complain about the quality of said items. You buy cheap stuff, you get a cheap product more often than not. Hence the whole 'you get what you pay for' thing. So, when people get free items and then bitch about them being poor quality or not up to their standards... duh? You want a better product, go buy the better product. Stores don't often give out expensive, well made stuff so if you're going somewhere because the first 200 people are getting someone free? Don't expect champagne when a bulk package of kool-aid mix is cheaper. They're using the free product to try and get you in to buy stuff. They know most people are just coming for the free stuff. They're not going to be out a lot of money on an expensive product when they won't make the profit back let alone break even. It's simple. Just sayin'.
The NHL Awards were last night. See, I watch award shows! At least that one, anyway. I just can't care about entertainment awards since I don't like most mainstream music or television and I hardly see movies and just don't care about pop culture in general. I digress. This was one of the funniest part of the show. The skit with the Anaheim Ducks players, even though I dislike the Ducks quite a lot as a general rule. This shit is funny as hell. Though, I can't guarantee a non-hockey fan will find it as funny. You never know, lol.
Y'all know I rarely ever write on here about famous people. I hardly watch TV and we only have basic network TV anyway. I don't keep up with celebrity drama or read the tabloids. Mainly because I just don't give a damn what people I've never met do with their lives. I don't see a point in the fascination (sometimes obsession) people have with celebrities and their lives. I won't get off on a tangent about that, though, because that's not what this post is about.
Once in a while, I do post about famous people. Usually musicians and sometimes athletes. Almost always because one that I did really like and admire has passed on.
Ronnie James Dio (July 10, 1942 – May 16, 2010)
He died 3 days ago. A few people I know were surprised to find out that this bummed me out. He was "before my time" you know, since I'm all of 24 years old. Which I guess is true. However, I listen to a lot of music that would be considered "before my time" to be honest. Aerosmith, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Aretha Franklin, Phil Collins, Frank Sinatra, Journey, The Temptations, Boston and the list goes on and on of people who were famous before I was ever even born and in some cases, before my parents were born. I like a lot of old music.
Dio was one of my mom's favorite metal musicians. He was her first live metal concert. She loved his music. I get my appreciate and love of metal from her. She turned me on to people like Dio and other hard rock and metal acts that were "before my time" so to speak. So see, from a young age, I've been rocking out. ;) So because of my mom introducing me to his music, I liked Dio as a kid and kept on liking him.
So when she sent me a text to tell me about him passing on, I felt a bit bummed. There's another great musician that I didn't get to see play live and now never will. Though, I found out from her that he had stomach cancer and had to cancel the upcoming tour he was planning because of being too ill. So, like most instances like this, it's sad they're gone but wonderful that they're no longer in pain and suffering. His music will live on and I, like so many others, will keep rocking out to Dio for years to come.
This is and always has been my favorite song by Dio.
The lyrics I used in the picture belong to the song "I Don't Believe You" by Pink. Click that link to watch the video. It's a lovely song. Plus, Pink rocks.
I'm up to something today. I hope it goes well. If it goes well and works out, y'all will hear (or you know, read... ;)) about it next week. If not, y'all won't hear anything else on what it is I'm up to, lol. I hate being vague but I always feel like I'm jinxing it if I say too much too soon, lol. Wish me luck, please and thank you. :D
Today is the last day to enter the sex toy giveaway! I forgot that yesterday was Thursday so I thought it ended yesterday. Oops, my mistake. You still have until midnight central time tonight to get in an entry. Find out how here. Come back Saturday to see who won! There will be a video. ;)
The Boyfriend rented The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus on Wednesday night. It has Heath Ledger, Colin Farrell, Jude Law and Johnny Depp. It looks weird, it is as weird as it looks and it was pretty good too. I'd totally watch it again. Then again, I love strange movies.
This is one of my favorite songs by Incubus.
I fucking love them. They're one of my absolute favorite bands. ♥ 1) What's your favorite thing in your bedroom? The bed!
2) Do you own a paintball gun? I wish! I used to but don't anymore. Bummer.
3) When is your birthday? June 15th! :D
4) What do you prefer to drink in the morning? OJ or V8 Berry Fusion.
5) Are you able to successfully do a proper push up? Indeed!
6) Name 3 things you purchased for yourself in the last few days? Nothing. I'm broke. And I mean it when I say it, lol.
7) Do you own any slippers/house shoes? Nope.
8) When did you last get some form of exercise? Yesterday. Did various exercises with some weights, some stomach crunches and then did 13 miles on the exercise bike.
9) What does good with tomato juice? Someone who isn't me to drink it.
10) Are you probably able to do the Waltz? Maybe, lol. I'd be a little rusty but I think I remember how.
Thank you to everyone who commented on my blog post yesterday in regard to tolerance and acceptance. Whether you agreed or disagreed with my points, I appreciate the comments that I have received and the couple e-mails I have received as well. If you haven't checked out the blog post from yesterday, please do and feel free to share your thoughts and opinions.
Moving on. =)
This band has been one of my favorite bands for years. Before their awesome collaboration with sexy and talented Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil on "S.O.S." Or their song with Corey Taylor of Slipknot/Stonesour on "I'm Not Jesus" or even more recently, their song with Adam Gontier of Three Days Grace on "I Don't Care."
Their music is gorgeous. I can easily listen to them and drift off to sleep feeling relaxed and sometimes even peaceful. I feel like I'm absorbing the notes as they're played right into my mind and body and it just lulls me right to sleep. I also listen to them often when I've got a lot on my mind because I can just focus on the music and the beauty of what they play. I love metal and symphonic metal is one of my favorite subgenres. I love the pairing of classical music with hard rock. It's a beautiful thing. ;)
This song is one of my favorites. Not just by them but "Nothing Else Matters" is also one of my absolute favorite Metallica songs. So here is Apocalyptica.
