The $15 egg throw down and more...

The following are conversations I've had so far this week with employees at work.

E1: "'I have a question about something home related. I was just wondering, how long does it take for milk to go bad? I accidentally put the milk back into the cabinet and the cereal back into the refrigerator."

Me: "Ha, most people have done that a time or two before. How long did you leave the milk in the cabinet for before you remembered?"

"E1: Not long. Just 3 days. Maybe 4? I'm not sure. Less than 5, definitely."

Me: "I'd buy fresh milk and get rid of what you have at home."

E1: "Ok. It's still in the cabinet anyway. I forgot about it this morning again."

E2: "You know how in Dumb & Dumber they get in trouble for peeing in the beer bottles."

Me: "Yeah?"

E2: "I want to do that. Pee in beer bottles, get pulled over and argue about it being pee until the cop drinks the pee. I will have a friend in the back recording that shit so it can go on youtube."

Me: "You know, the cop would likely just smell it if he or she touched it at all. He or she wouldn't actually take a drink out of it."

E2: "How do you know? Are you psychic now?"

Me: "If by psychic, you're asking if I've got plenty of common sense, then yes, I'm psychic as hell."

E3: "You know what's a bad idea?"

Me: "Hmm?"

E3: "Chopping onions, handling onions and then rubbing your eyes. They burn now."

Me: "Go flush them."

E3: "Like, you mean in the toilet or...?"

Me: "What? No, keep your face away from the toilet unless you're vomiting. Rinse them out with water. Wash you hands, too."

E4: "If the moon were really made out of cheese, wouldn't that make bread the most popular grocery item in the space grocery store? And wouldn't it melt when it came in view of the sun? Or got too near one of the really hot planets? It doesn't look like cheese. Well, gross molded cheese maybe. That makes the moon moldy." <--He wasn't being silly, these were serious questions. I thought he was being goofy at first so I just let him go on but then he got upset when I wasn't taking him seriously. Oops.

E4: "What country is China in?"

Me: "You mean what continent?"

E4: "No, continent is like ketchup or something, right?"

Me: "No, that's condiment, not continent. China is a country. Asia is a continent. China is in Asia."

E4: "Wait, then what country is Asia in?"

Me: "..........I don't even know how to answer that. Asia isn't a country or in a country. Go to the library and do research this weekend on Asia and China and the difference between a continent and country. Please."

E4: "Does Dallas even have one of those?"

Me: "A public library?"

E4: "Yeah, I've never been to one or seen one anywhere."

Me: "Several." I then proceeded to attempt to explain country, continent, etc but didn't have much luck.

E4: "Do you think squirrels have sex dreams about acorns? Is that like a food fetish for them if they do?"

E5: "If I drop this whole carton of eggs, do many do you think will actually break?"

Me: "I don't know but put the eggs back in the cooler."

E5: "What if I accidentally trip and the carton goes flying out of my hands and lands on the floor? Then it'll just be an accident and I'll see how many eggs actually break."

Me: "I know it won't be an accident if you end up doing that."

E5: "If I trip, it's an accident."

Me: "Not when you're planning to trip. And you just told me the whole plan. So if you make yourself trip, I'm going to know you did it on purpose to see how many eggs will make it out alive."

E5: "What if I pay you like $15 to waste this one carton of eggs?"

Me: "Fine. Give me the $15 and then waste away."

*5 minutes later*

E5: "Haha! Only 5 broke. And omg I can't believe you let me waste a carton of eggs. Big Boss will be so mad at you tomorrow when he sees a carton missing. You're so in trouble."

Me: "I can't believe you gave me $15 to let you do it. I'll go buy a half dozen down the street for $1.50 to replace what you broke and that still leaves me with $13.50 profit. Thanks."

E5: "Wait... Damn."

And yes, sometimes, I do wish I were making this shit up. I'd end up facepalming less at work and likely end up with less headaches, too. Granted, this stuff doesn't happen every day and not everyone that works there is a complete goofball. Overall, I like my job and like most of the people I work with. Just some moments.... I just have no words for. I just shake my head and feel like smacking someone upside their own some days, lol.

Happy Friday!!

I love Incubus....

The title of this song is "Adolescents" and it's done by a band you may have heard of, Incubus. There isn't an actual music video for this (yet) so I'm just posting something off youtube since I want to spread the awesomeness of this song and don't want to wait for a legitimate music video, lol. Take a listen.... Even if you've heard it already. ;)

Anyone who knows me (or who has read my blog for long enough) knows that I LOVE Incubus. I love a lot of different music and tons of bands. It's nearly impossible for me to narrow one singer, band, etc down to being my ultimate favor but Incubus is probably it.

This song is a bit of a different style for them but they're always progressing a little here while not straying too far from their sound. I LOVE this song. I was so excited when the local radio station announced they would be playing the new Incubus song the day it came out at a specific time so I could make sure I got to a radio to listen to it. In case I was at work during that time, lol. I cannot wait for their new album to be released in July. I may have already pre-ordered it, in fact. :D

In August of '09 I saw them in concert and due to my boyfriend and his friend who was working during the show, I got upgraded from seats on the lawn to standing right on the rail in the pit, about 12 feet away from the stage. It was probably the best concert I've ever been to in my life. They're just a wonderful band. I could legitimately sit here for an hour gushing about how talented they are, how much I adore them, how fantastically talented Brandon Boyd is, and on and on and on. If you do want to see pictures from that Incubus show or to hear me ramble some more about how awesome they are, click here. I love them so much they have their own label and that's where you'll find more Incubus related posts. :)

Happy Wednesday!

Innuendo on the mini-golf course & stuff...

Yesterday, I went to dinner with my mom and two youngest siblings. After that, we went to play miniature golf. I saw this sign upon arriving at the course entrance and pretty much died laughing. My sister (she's 20) giggled over it, too.

I must say, a 5 stroke limit doesn't sound very pleasurable to me.

Though, that wasn't the only one. Between me and several of my Twitter buddies, we came up with tons of innuendo in that sign.

We also let the innuendo carry over into the batting cages once I announced we were heading over there.

By the way, I got 3 hole in ones on the mini golf course and got my lowest score ever. Which isn't much to be said because I usually suck pretty badly at mini golf. I have fun anyway, kind of like when we go bowling. I don't have to be good at something to have fun at it.

I was actually nervous about the batting cages. I played baseball for a long time growing up and into my teens but hadn't played in quite a few years and hadn't been inside the batting cages in a while either. Mainly, knowing I had been such a good player (and I was, my other younger brother's baseball coach was forever trying to convince me to come play for their team because he could pull some strings to make it happen) and so good at bat, I was a little afraid that I would suck at it now. I don't mind not being good at things (see: mini golf, bowling, tennis, soccer, pottery, sewing, line dancing, being patient, etc) but finding out I sucked at something I used to be really good at and really loved doing would suck for me. Kind of like a personal disappoint that would have me working at it again until I got good at it again. So, I was apprehensive when the first ball launched out at me. Then felt better as I cracked it out to the back of the cage area. The more balls I hit, the better I felt. I hardly missed a single ball launched my way. It was fun and reminded me how much I really loved playing baseball. I also remembered what great stress relief it is to just stand there swinging a bat and hearing that sweet satisfying sound as the bat meets the ball and sends it sailing out in a direction far away. So, I promised myself last night that I'd try to hit up the batting cages at least once every month now. If for nothing else than it's fun, relaxing and stress reducing.

I also made little Easter Bags for my family. I'm not religious but most of my family is. My youngest two siblings are 20 and 16, so they didn't mind getting a bag over a basket. I doubt if they were younger they would have minded that anyway. I got four Easter themed gifts bags, filled them up with that annoying fake grass then put a DVD and some candy inside each bag. My sister got "Daybreakers", brother got "How To Train Your Dragon", Boyfriend got "Sherlock Holmes" and my mom got a Tyler Perry comedy she likes although I honestly forgot which one it was already.

I did the bags because they were $1 a piece versus $3 a piece for the cheapest basket I could find. The bags were cuter than the cheap baskets anyway. And I don't see a lot of point in spending a lot of money on something that is going to end up in the garbage later that night anyway. The bags were a cute alternative that saved me a few bucks and everyone loved their Easter bags. My boyfriend knew I was doing them but didn't know what I was putting in them. My mom and siblings were just surprised and happy with theirs.

I had a great day spending time with people I love. Hopefully all of you had a good weekend and a Happy Easter if you celebrate the holiday.

Happy Monday. :)

Validation...

YES. <3

I don't even feel like I need to add anything to this. The only thing I'd correct is, "...should tell *you* you're awesome is yourself" but eh, whatever. The point, it's still there.

Happy Thursday!

This one's a little sad & personal....

April 11th is a special day to my boyfriend. Unfortunately, not all special days are aligned with a good memory.

When my boyfriend was very young, his father walked out on his family. His mother, baby sister and him lived with his grandparents after that. He was extremely close with his grandfather. He looked up to him, he was his role model. He was like the father he didn't have anymore. They spent countless hours doing things together. My boyfriend and his family lived with them until my boyfriend was 17. Then, they moved to a house built about half a mile down the road from his grandparents house. You can see his grandparents house standing in his mom's front yard. His grandfather had Parkinson's disease and passed away on April 11th.

I was 19 when I met my boyfriend. It was late April when I met him. While getting to know each other, we talked about how we both had our grandparents around a lot while growing up and how much they meant to us. It was something we found we had in common and something not a lot of people have ever really been able to relate to. Which might sound off but I've never met a lot of other younger people my age who had a close relationship with their grandparents.

I never met his grandfather but I know I would have liked him. His grandmother is one of the sweetest yet toughest women I've ever met in my life. She rarely mentions her late husband but when she does, I can still see the love she has for him even though he's gone. I can say he was a great man despite never having met him.

With my boyfriend, we'll have been together 5 years in late May. I'll have known him for 6 years at the end of this month. When I first met him, he couldn't talk about his grandfather without tearing up and having to stop to choke back some of the emotion that was threatening to pour out. He can talk about him just fine now but I can always tell how much he misses him when he does. I think when dealing with something like that, it just gets easier to deal with. You never stop loving them and you never really stop missing them. That's what's so hard about letting people so close to you. You know eventually, they'll be gone in some way. And it's hard to deal with that kind of pain. Even after you've accepted it and moved on, there will still be times where it hurts again.

I always do a little something special for the boyfriend on April 11th because I know he thinks about his grandfather more today than any other day. I work 11 am-close today but thankfully, he works later than I do tonight so I'll have time to get a little something put together. I already know what I will do I think but since he might read this before then, no way am I giving it away. ;)

Have a great day, y'all.

Brain Dump: Cupcakes, Stars, Spring Sucks, etc....

I've started writing several posts today and then ended up scrapping them all after re-reading them and thinking, "Where the eff were you going with that?" Lol. I'm not lacking on things to say or to write about but I've got so much going on that everything is just running together in my head.

Work has been super busy lately. We had a catering order for $525 yesterday. We have one we're doing tonight that totals out at a little bit more than that. It's great, really.

I'm also in the process of doing a lot of planning. As I mentioned, I'm doing a cupcake booth at a festival next month and have been putting together my cupcake menu. I'm thinking of doing 6 different types. So far I have chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, rainbow and two special ones. I'm probably going with a s'mores cupcake for the 5th one and maybe doing a cream filled red velvet for the 6th. I've been playing around with recipes for the last two. None of them are plain but they're not too over the top either. I did play around with a pina colada cupcake but haven't got the recipe right just yet. Which brings me around to another point. In doing this festival, I'll also be working my way around to selling my cupcakes in a more regular fashion. I'm also thinking of starting a blog to chronicle recipes, mishaps, tips, pictures and other stuff. I'm not sure on that yet. My goal is to eventually own my own business and since I'm not made of money, I'm going to start out so very small and see if I can work up to what I want to do. Plus, it's a fun way to earn a little extra money for now and I love baking. I also love coming up with unique ideas for cupcakes that other places aren't doing right now. And my boss being cool as he can sometimes be is going to let me try to do something with the cupcakes at work. If that goes well initially and continues to go well, it might be a more permanent thing. So here's hoping. I'm excited because I have some plans for this and some things are already in motion but I don't exactly know how it's all going to go. I do know I need some people willing to be guinea pigs for new recipes I come up with. So if any of you that live near me want to volunteer for that, speak up. ;)

Moving on. I'm going to the Stars vs Avs game tomorrow night. It might be the last home game of the season if the Stars don't make playoffs again. Which is depressing. Both missing playoffs for the third year in a row and the possibility of it being the last NHL game I go to until October. At least I have baseball to occupy me with in the summer.

On Sunday we went to the Rangers game. They played the Red Sox. It was the third game of the series. The Rangers won all three. They're five games into the season so far and they're at 5-0. I'm excited for this season. Definitely excited to get to a few more games, too. Going to games definitely makes me miss playing baseball. I played for so long as a kid then got a job and put all my time into that. Damn work always getting in the way. As it is now, with work and the other projects I have going on, I wouldn't have time to play a sport now anyway. I'm okay with that, just something I miss doing when I'm around it.

Spring weather is so awesome but I think I'd enjoy it more if I could actually enjoy it. I have crazy allergies that prevent me from enjoying all this lovely weather we have. Even my allergy medicine isn't enough to totally combat it all. Which sucks because it has been so pretty outside the last few days. Not to say I stay inside and avoid it because I don't. I just end up feeling miserable physically while I'm enjoying it.

Something else I'm happy about is I started a new iron supplement. I'm anemic and haven't been taking anything for it the last few months. So I've been constantly exhausted every single day. My 10+ hour work days of being on my feet and running around for a whole shift hasn't helped with my fatigue either. I've had other issues, too. The fatigue is the one I've been feeling the most. The new supplement I've started is a bit higher in iron than the ones I've previously taken but that's a good thing. It also has fewer side effects but the two it has are seriously sucky, lol. So far, I haven't experienced any of the possible side effects, though, Here's hoping it stays that way. ;)

I'm not doing a lot of blogging but I am doing a lot of writing. Mostly for my book of short stories I started and then stopped working on when I was really down and bummed out about everything. I think I owe a certain blogger an autographed first copy when I get it done. I doubt he remembers I promised him that, though. Maybe it'll be a nice surprise once I finally get it all together.

Even if I don't end up doing the cupcake blog, I'm definitely going to be posting pictures and recipes on here from time to time. Exciting, I know. Calm down people.

I think I've bored y'all enough for one day. ;) I started a post on a feminist that went off on me on shaving. We actually got into a pretty heated argument about it but I didn't have the attention span to get it finished. So hopefully I'll have that up some time this week. Maybe. ;)

Happy Wednesday!!
